JA-1We have to point out that floral crown – so pretty!

Tell us the story of how you and your fiancé met!  When, where and how!

Well! That’s a funny story…..we met one night at a dive bar on Whyte Ave where he tried to play cool and offered to “maybe buy me a beer later or something”. We ended up ditching the friends we came with and went dancing all night together! We spent the rest of that summer biking around, having picnics, and pretty much doing anything we could to be together. It was so much fun! Five years later on our anniversary he took me to the spot where we had our first picnic together and proposed!

Tell us a bit about your wedding!  Theme, colours, any special traditions etc.

I wanted the day to be romantic and rustic so I turned to Pinterest for all my inspiration. I went with off whites, dusty rose, pink, some metallic pieces, and wooden accents. It was really fun to put together! We are very casual and easy-going people so we wanted our wedding to have the same feel. It was just a really great summer day filled with our friends and family, great food and lots of dancing!

What was your favourite part of the day?

Hard to pick just one! Walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing my soon-to-be husband waiting for me was one of my favourite moments.

What advice would you give to newly engaged brides when they begin the planning process?

My advice would be to lock down things like the date, location and caterers right away and then relax and try to enjoy the rest of it! Those vendors tend to be the first to go and book up years in advance. Also, try on as many styles of dresses as you can, try to be open minded! You won’t know which dress is ” the one” until you put it on. Most importantly, I would say to have fun with your wedding, don’t let the planning of the happiest day of your life stress you out! It will all happen exactly as it’s supposed to ūüôā

What to Wear to your Bridal Shower

Stumped on what to wear to your bridal shower or in need of some inspiration? Well I’ve gone ahead and done that for you! You probably already have a little black dress in your closet, but what about a little white dress? I’ve found some that will be perfect for your bridal shower. Seeing as white is reserved for the bride, take advantage of this! This is great for photos too, as you’ll stand out! Of course, I didn’t just limit the selection to only white dresses and chose some other light coloured options.

LucySkirtJenny Yoo Lucy Skirt and Perla Top

I couldn’t help but to start off with Jenny Yoo’s separates as the perfect option for your bridal shower! I cannot get over this simple way to individualize your outfit, as they have beautiful pieces that are easily mix and matched. From their cardigan style tops like the¬†Paisley, to their delicate detailed tanks like the¬†Ellie top, you are sure to fall in love with something.

PaisleyTopLucy Skirt paired with the Paisley top

My personal favorite is the Lucy skirt, the tea length and cut are so flattering on every body shape. And the best part? It comes in a few bridal colour options (alpine, cashmere, cream, cameo pink… and even more)! If you don’t want to go with a solid, choose one of their light, playful floral prints we are obsessing over!

ArabellaSkirtThis Arabella skirt comes in a range of colours too, from blushes to creams!

Below are some more options I found online! A lot of these chosen will look great on a lot of different women and have unique details.

Lulu'sDressLulu’s Ivory High Low Dress

This dress is so feminine and classic. We love the pretty silhouette and crisp ivory colour. You cannot go wrong with this option! Besides having a great selection, Lulu’s is also pretty affordable too.

AsosDress1ASOS Sleeved Lace Pencil Dress

This dress is perfect if you’re having your bridal shower during the winter, as you still get to wear white without looking too summery (or freezing for that matter)! Also, ASOS is a great site to check out, as they have a lot of options for petite, tall, or plus size women! You’re sure to find a great fit.

Hope this gave you some ideas of what to wear to your bridal shower! Let us know your favorite below or what you wore to your bridal shower!

Will you be my bridesmaid?

This has to be one of the most exciting wedding questions, so why not add a unique twist? We’ve found some cute, personalized ideas of ways to pop this question to your bridesmaids!

1. DIY Bridesmaid Boxes

These DIY boxes are so well done, allowing you to add personalized touches inside! Some additions we love are wine accessories, nail polish, a ring pop (or any candy/ chocolate for that matter ‚Äď the more the merrier, right?), paint swatches of your colour scheme, jewelry, a candle, a mini picture frame, cake pops, lip balm or makeup, and don‚Äôt forget a cute card (some ideas below).

All of these ideas allow you to tie in your wedding theme or colour scheme. Also consider filling it with coordinating tissue paper, tulle, ribbons, confetti ‚Äď the options are endless!

2. Personalized Muslin Bags

We love this idea, especially for a rustic themed wedding! These handmade muslin bags are such a delicate way to pop the question to your maid of honor and bridesmaids. It allows you to add in whatever little items you like! We love the idea of adding in a nail polish that matches the colours of your wedding. This is a quick and easy way to personalize a small gift!

3. POP the Question

This idea is pretty quick and simple to put together, but still allows you to spice up asking your bridesmaids to be in your bridal party! Purchase mini champagne bottles, ribbon and straws that coordinate with your wedding colours or theme. Use the ribbon to tie the straw onto the bottle, and you can also attach a small card onto the bottle. The perfect way to POP the question!

Spotlight on Delica Brides – Carrie and Tristan!

We love everything about today’s wedding! ¬†From the stunning location in Kelowna, BC to the gorgeous ballgown our bride Carrie selected and the amazing bridesmaids dresses which weren’t actually dresses at all, we can’t get enough of this romantic wedding!

Carrie was a fantastic bride to work with, very cheerful and sweet when she came in the shop and best of all she was extremely excited to be marrying her fiance. ¬†Which I think you will see very evidently in her photos! ¬†And on that note, I will stop babbling and let you see what I know you’re all dying to see…the photos! ¬†And of course some words from our bride herself.

Tell us the story of how you and your fiancé met!  When, where and how!

I went travelling to Thailand in University and met a lifelong friend there.  Tristan was and still is, best friends with her now husband.  I met him several times at gatherings with friends, and after a couple years of persistence on his end, I finally said yes to go on a date. And the rest is history since the first date.

Tell us a bit about your wedding!  Theme, colours, any special traditions etc.

Our wedding didn’t have a specific theme but we wanted the mood and setting to be romantic.  We used pastel colors, mostly peach, blush and white.  Cedar Creek Winery is a stunning venue with spectacular views of the Okanagan Valley. We had a wine and cheese tasting directly after the ceremony for guests to relax and mingle.  Our goal was to make the speeches short and sweet so everyone had plenty of time to enjoy the photo booth, the desserts, the dancing and the drinks. As my dad is from Scotland, he surprised us with a traditional Scottish poem, which my mom then interpreted line by line.

What was your favourite part of the day?

Each and every moment that day was perfect and we wish we could do it all over again!  However, if I had to pick it would be the first look before the ceremony.  At first, the traditionalist in me wasn’t too sure about the idea but it was the best decision we made that day.  It allowed Tristan and I to have a private, intimate moment just the two of us.  It was important to take time for us during the day and to stop, embrace each other and the love and passion we share for each other.

Carrie+TristanWedding-282 Carrie+TristanWedding-491 Carrie+TristanWedding-627

What advice would you give to newly engaged brides when they begin the planning process?

The first piece of advice will completely depend on the bride however it made our wedding day and planning process completely stress-free and that is to get a wedding planner.  The best decision I made was to hire our wedding planner.  Laura was truly amazing, everything from venue choices, recommendations for vendors, décor decisions, day of timing, budget, I could go on forever.

The second piece of advice is even if you don’t do the first look before the ceremony is to make sure to take time for you and your husband.  The day will be busy and it’s easy to get caught up everything that’s going on around you.  Make time to breath and take in the moment, just the two of you!

Thank you so much Carrie and Tristan for sharing your day with us! ¬†We’re wishing you years of happiness and joy!

Spotlight On Delica Brides – Carrie and Allon!

We are at the end of another amazing wedding season and we have had some incredible brides this year! ¬†One of our most memorable brides Carrie had a stunning wedding in Mexico as well as a beautiful reception in Edmonton and to top it off she wore one of our all time favourite Truvelle gowns, the Eden. ¬†Carrie was radiant in this rose gold sequinned beauty as she said “I do” against¬†a simply picturesque backdrop.

Thank you Carrie for sharing your special day with us!  We truly looked forward to working with you each time you came into the shop!

Tell us the story of how you and your fiancé met!  When, where and how!

We met online! We were very fortunate. I didn’t want to go online but my friends encouraged me to do so. And I ended up talking with Allon and meeting him right in the beginning! We both felt right from the beginning that we had known each other forever. It was so easy, fun and comfortable! We dated for three years and then he completely surprised me November 2014 with a proposal! He recorded asking my dad to marry me. He cooked me dinner one relaxing Sunday night at home, then at the end of dinner he told me he had a funny video for me to watch on his phone (which isn’t uncommon for us to do that). He got up and walked away from the table for a second and then I realized it was a recording of him asking my dad for my hand in marriage! All of a sudden he was on one knee beside me in our dining room. It was so intimate, personal and perfect!

Um let’s talk about all the amazing in this photo…the dress, the water, the sky…it’s too much! ¬†My heart can’t take it!

Carrie’s twin sister Kristi found her bridal gown at Delica a couple years ago. ¬†Do we sense a family tradition starting? ¬†We don’t mind!

Tell us a bit about your wedding!  Theme, colours, any special traditions etc.

We got engaged and married within 6 months! We knew that we wanted to have fun with it and not drag it out for a year or more. We wanted to be in the moment of happiness. We longed for a family vacation as we are both so incredibly close to our family. So we booked a resort in Mexico. Just our immediate family on both sides came with us in April.  There was 20 of us in total. It was an incredibly personal and fun week with the people we loved the most. Then a week later we had a 120 person reception back in Edmonton at the Royal Mayfair. My husband is Jewish, so we incorporated some fun traditions from his side into that night and introduced them to my family and friends. The Jewish Hora wedding dance brought up the energy right from the beginning and got everyone moving and smiling!

Right from the beginning, I knew I wanted a Pure Glamour theme. I love sparkly things, soft things that flow, I love rose gold, cr√®mes, silvers and big bold flowers. From those specific things…I planned my wedding and stuck to it. I was so thankful that Delica Bridal had a dress that matched that exactly. Also, I hired event designer Cory Christopher. We worked on my vision for months! Him and his team knocked it out of the park. It couldn’t have been any more perfect!

Excuse me while I try to get my heart started again…I mean how GORGEOUS!?

IMG_9267 IMG_7050

What was your favourite part of the day?

To be honest, sharing Mexico with our family and then coming back home and sharing it with everyone else in our lives was so positive for us. I don’t have a favorite part of the day because I felt so much love and positivity from the whole week in Mexico right up until our reception in Edmonton. I didn’t want the celebrating to end! It was all my favorite!

There was ONE particular moment though in Edmonton at the Royal Mayfair that I really let my emotions go. My sister in law made the most personal and amazing wedding video and slideshow. She put together pictures and video of pre wedding moments, ceremony and celebration from Mexico to show everyone in the room. They all felt like they were there experiencing it with us because of that. That moment made me realize how important everyone was to us and how fortunate I was for everything that has happened to Allon and I up until that moment. I felt so supported and loved. It is an amazing feeling to share something so special and unique with all of your favorite people!

_MG_7489 IMG_7077

We love this sweet moment between our bride and groom.

What advice would you give to newly engaged brides when they begin the planning process?

To let go! There is now so much information from the wedding industry with its vast amount of accessibility online (Pinterest, Instagram, blogs and more!) that you can collect so much detail. I drew a picture of what was ME and what Allon and I cherished before I searched online for ideas. I didn’t let the pressure of the details get to me. I love that we can search our hearts out for gorgeous ideas and photos now, but make sure you search with the right intention. Don’t collect too many ideas that go far off of who you are and what makes you happy. Be open to creative ideas but do what is YOU. Looking back, everything I picked, was 100% me and approved from my husband. Also, have fun with everything! It is a process filled with smiles and celebration. Always remember why you’re planning…to marry the man of your dreams! The right or wrong table cloth color won‚Äôt change that.

Brides take note!  Carrie kept her jewelry simple and classic to compliment her personal style, and it was a completely stunning choice.

Regarding the dress…someone during my dress choosing process said to me that I shouldn’t worry because luckily, ALL wedding dresses are stunning. They are supposed to take your breath away and be the most beautiful piece of clothing. It‚Äôs true! Every single dress at Delica Bridal took my breath away, really! Each time I saw one, I would think that I could celebrate in that! Because it was stunning. They all were! I didn’t have a cry moment when I put the dress on that I finally chose, but I felt that it was me, it was fun, it was soft, and I could wear it forever. I felt that it matched my heart and the planning process that was going on. I was so content and happy inside when I wore it. You may not have a cry moment and scream I SAY YES TO THIS DRESS!! But know that it should be fun and positive, whether you’re by yourself or with a room full of family and friends. Make sure you smile and take in the experience for how special it is! The ladies at Delica Bridal really made me feel so special and allowed me to shop with the greatest intentions. I went to some fittings by myself just to have a few moments to myself and take it all in. But I was pleasantly comforted and surprised that even though I was by myself getting measured,¬† taped and pinned, I felt like I was with caring girlfriends! The bridal consultants are something special at this boutique. I miss their kindness and personal relationship they created with me during my 6 months!

claireThankYou cards

We were so thrilled to read Carrie’s blog entry because we absolutely¬†love when a bride feels a personal connection to Delica! ¬†Our goal is to make sure each bride leaves the shop feeling confident and excited about her wedding gown. ¬†From the first time you step into the store to the last alteration appointment we want to help you feel your most beautiful.

Thank you Carrie for being not only a great bride but a pretty wonderful person, we wish you and Allon years of happiness ahead!

Truvelle 2016 Collection

Wow!¬† It’s been WAY too long since we last blogged and we are so sorry about it!¬† BUT we have something amazing to welcome you back to the blog!¬† Truvelle has released their 2016 Collection!¬† We were lucky enough to preview the collection at the end of August in the Truvelle showroom in Vancouver and let us just tell you, they are just as stunning in person as they are in photos!

Not only were we in love with the new gowns but we fell in love with the Truvelle showroom the minute we walked in.¬† Located in Gastown where designer Gaby was raised and currently lives and works, the shop¬†completely¬†reflects¬†the spirit of Truvelle that brides have grown to know and love.¬† I mean, hardwood floors, giant windows filling the room with sunshine and touches of greenery adorning the walls…does it get better?

No it does not.

Are you dying yet?

Every bride needs killer shoes to walk down that aisle right?

And our true loves, the wedding gowns! <3

After we finished gushing over the shop and finished taking tons of photos to Instagram later we got down to business and took a look at the new collection.  Brides of YEG you are about to be blown away.

Last year Truvelle showcased lots of warm tones with almond chiffon, blush accents and rose gold details.¬† But 2016 is all about those cool tones, silver accents and smoky grey chiffon.¬† Plus some beautiful jacquard fabric that will just make your heart stop right in its tracks.¬† If you aren’t familiar with the term, jacquard is a fabric that has a design or pattern¬†incorporated into the weave of the fabric¬†rather than being printed or dyed on.¬† It’s a slightly heavier fabric than you may not be used to when dealing with bridal gowns but it’s very rich, luxurious and makes a very elegant statement.

Anyways, enough talking about the gowns, time to see them!

Please commence swooning now.

Hayley Paige Gets Married!

One of Delica Bridal’s favourite exclusive designers, Hayley Paige has designed dream dresses for countless brides. ¬†So last year when she announced her engagement to insurance broker, Danny Wallis, we were SO EXCITED to see what this bridal fashion genius walked down the aisle in.

And our girl did NOT disappoint!

She rocked not one but THREE gowns on her wedding day, plus a gorgeous rehearsal dinner dress AND a stunning day-after brunch dress. ¬†The bridal world took to Instagram to post, regram and generally freak out over the new Mrs. Wallis’s choices. ¬†Without further adieu please get ready to swoon.

Miss Hayley’s rehearsal dinner dress really set the tone for her wedding weekend. ¬†Inspired by the Velveteen Rabbit and chain mail armour, it wasn’t short on bling and definitely delivered the wow factor!

For ceremony number one Hayley walked down the aisle in a long sleeve gown covered with whimsical beading and embroidery.  Talk about modern day princess, we love that she completed her look with a tiara!

But let’s not forget, in addition to that beautiful tiara headpiece, she wore a long sparkling veil as she walked down the aisle!

Ah! ¬†All this gorgeousness is just too much, we need a minute… <3

And then came the dress for ceremony number two. ¬†The floral, forest princess-y, whimsical, everything girly, fairy tale dream dress that everyone was FREAKING out over! ¬†There’s so much here that is amazing! ¬†The floral skirt, the boho headpiece, the crop top! ¬†You may want to sit down for the rest of this…

Usually on a wedding gown, having white¬†three dimensional flowers is whimsical enough, but Hayley¬†went a step further and actually used them to add splashes of colour! ¬†We are speechless over this gown… have no words.

Oh wait a minute, we almost forgot…there was a unicorn! ¬†A blue unicorn!

For her third and final dress of the day, Hayley slipped into a more fitted gown COVERED in the most beautiful beading we have ever seen!  Side note, how stinking cute is this photo?!  There is so much love between her and her new hubby!

2015 CMT Country Music Awards

So by now you may have guessed that we love keeping an eye on the red carpet to see what the stars are wearing for their big nights.  Last night was the CMT Country Music Awards and the ladies of country did not disappoint!  Country stars have a reputation of being a little more down to earth than some of their Hollywood counterparts and their fashion choices reflect those personalities.

Brittany Snow Erin Andrews

Co-hosts Brittany Snow and Erin Andrews both looked elegant as they hit the red carpet. ¬†We love the high slit on Snow’s black and white gown and the hip cut outs on Andrew’s floor length number.

Jana Kramer

Jana Kramer rocked a dramatic look complete with high slit, plunging neckline and cut out sides.  We love the deep green colour paired with gold accessories!

Kelsea Ballerini

We love this bright blue colour on Kelsea Ballerini!  The ruffled skirt and illusion neckline is a perfect blend of sophistication and fun for this young country singer.

Kimberly Perry

The Band Perry front woman, Kimberly Perry, looked amazing in this cobalt coloured gown.  We love that she kept her accessories to a minimum and kept the focus on the bold colour of her gown.

Carrie Underwood

Okay so it’s no secret that Carrie Underwood has amazing legs, which means it likely didn’t come as a surprise that she showed up to the event rocking a short dress! ¬†We love this white long sleeved mini with silver beaded details!

Also, can we just take a moment to REALLY appreciate Carrie’s style transformation from the first time we saw her on Idol? ¬†The girl has come FAR! *Insert high five emoji here*

Kelli Pickler

Another “Idol” star hit the red carpet in a short gown last night as well! ¬†Kellie Pickler looked stunning in a knee length sequinned gown in shades of blue.

Danielle Bradbury

It seems that the ladies of TV singing competitions like to show off their legs! ¬†Eighteen year old “Voice” alum, Danielle Bradbery, also wore a short gown to the awards. ¬†We love all things gold and apparently so does Miss Bradbery! ¬†Shine on sister!

Cassadee Pope

Fellow “Voice” star, Cassadee Pope, also opted for a long sleeved mini. ¬†She chose a nude coloured, sequinned lace dress with sheer panels. ¬†We love that she went for a slightly more dramatic hairstyle to amp up the monochromatic look.

Rumer Willis

And while Rumer Willis wasn’t on a televised singing competition, she is no stranger to televised competition!¬† The Dancing With The Stars winner showed off the results of all her hard work in the studio with this strapless, fitted white dress. ¬†Paired with lavender pumps and a metallic clutch we think this look earns a 10!

Laura Bell Bundy

Broadway star, TV actress and country singer, Laura Bell Bundy, stepped out onto the red carpet in printed pants paired with a strapless top and nude heels.  We love the fact that she went against the traditional red carpet style and looked amazing in her trendy and comfortable outfit!

Jamie Lynn Spears

Also hitting the red carpet in pants is Britney Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears! ¬†We are OBSESSED with this navy jumper paired with a yellow clutch and hot pink heels! ¬†We also like the subtle nod to her former Disney Channel character, Zoey, who always wore her key on a chain around her neck so she wouldn’t lose it.

Meghan Lindsay

We love a bold print and Meghan Linsey delivered!  What else do we love?  Crop tops! This country singer has a powerhouse voice and we love that her big, bold personality translated into her style for the awards!

Mickey Guyton

Singer Mickey Guyton also hopped on board the crop top train. ¬†She also opted for a bold statement in black and white prints. ¬†Our favourite part of this look is the unique pleated fabric of her skirt! ¬†(You can see a similar skirt on Hayley Paige’s “Megan” gown, in store now!)

And of course we had to mention Luke Bryan’s look! ¬†In our wonderful province we love rustic weddings and more and more grooms are wanting to wear jeans and boots, here is a great example of how to pull off the “formal jeans” style so many grooms are looking for! ¬†Side note, we love the navy colour of his jacket as an alternative to black or grey!

Let us know which stars look you liked best!  Are you planning to incorporate any of these Nashville approved red carpet trends into your wedding look?

2015 Billboard Music Awards

Sunday night was the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and as always we can count on celebs to give us everything from glam to downright shocking on the red carpet!  Read on to see a few of our favourite looks from Sunday night!

Singer/Songwriter Estelle looked stunning in a black lacy gown with sheer lace sleeves!  Which as you may remember from our Bridal Week coverage is going to be huge in 2016!

Idina Menzel 2

Idina Menzel wore a classic little black dress with a statement necklace highlighting that off shoulder neckline!

Jennett McCurdy 2

Actress Jennette McCurdy rocked a plunging neckline on her fitted blue gown. ¬†This deep¬†neckline is seen throughout Alvina Valenta’s new collections if you are wanting to rock a little drama on your wedding day!

Kerri Kasem Radio Host 2

Radio host Kerri Kasem walked the red carpet in a bold patterned gown!  We love a dress that makes a statement in a classy way!

Kira Kazantsev Miss America 2

Miss America 2015, Kira Kazantsev arrived to the awards in a gold and yellow colour blocked gown.  We love the peplum detail!

Lindsey Stirling Musician 2

Adorable musician, Lindsey Sterling rocked a glittery gown with nude panels creating a “cut out” look without being too scandalous!

Little Big Town Kimberly

We love musical group Little Big Town equally but our stand out fashion star from the band last night was Kimberly rocking a bright blue gown!

Mariah Carey

Are we even surprised that Mariah Carey showed up in a sexy¬†gown? ¬†She combined a plunging neckline, sheer panels on the sides of her gown and used an over skirt to create a high low style hemline to complete¬†her sexy red carpet look. ¬†If you like the look of the over skirt but don’t want to rock a mini underneath on your wedding day why not go for a fitted gown with an over skirt, like this style here.

Meghan Trainor 2

Dear future husband of Meghan Trainor, your girl is uber classy.  We love this fitted long sleeve gown on her, glitter and a slit make this otherwise conservative gown a stand out red carpet look for us!  We also like her choice of deep green as an alternative to classic black.

Natalie La Rose

Recording artist, Natalie La Rose wore a short white gown with beaded detail on the neckline and fringe! ¬†The fringe detail reminds us of “Monet” by Hayley Paige, see it here!

Olivia Culpo and Nick Jonas 2

Nick Jonas arrived looking dapper as always, but as much as we love the former boy band star, we can’t help but wish he would move aside so we can get a better look at that glittery romper Olivia Culpo is wearing! ¬†It’s a glammed up twist on a summer favourite that reminds us of a style designed for Occasions bridesmaids, see it here!

Taylor Swift 2

Okay, so did anyone really doubt that Tay Tay would show up in anything less than this brilliant white cut out jumpsuit? ¬†This 70’s inspired trend is making its way back to the runways, red carpets and down the aisle. ¬†In case you forgot, check out Solange Knowles bridal jumpsuit here!

Tori Kelly 2

Singer Tori Kelly has my personal favourite look of the night.  This long sleeved mini dress with fringe detail is simple, classy and just the right amount of sassy.  Perfect for the Billboard Music Awards!

Jennifer Lopez 2

And the award for “shocking attire on the red carpet” goes to Jennifer Lopez! ¬†Apparently this year Jennifer Lopez is going to see just how much she can show off without actually stepping onto the red carpet fully naked. ¬†This gown is slightly more covered up than her red Versace gown at the Met Gala, (see it here), but it still leaves very little to the imagination! ¬†Though we do have to say that the bead work is beautiful and we love the white and silver tones!

50 Cent 2

And finally a mention about mens wear on the red carpet. ¬†There was everything from tuxes and suits to tshirts and jean jackets but our stand out look for men was 50 Cent. ¬†At Delica we love ombre, see our Truvelle “Taylor” gown here! ¬†Pairing an ombre jacket with solid dark grey pants and white shoes, this rapper is showing off his fashion forward side! ¬†It’s nice to see a men’s red carpet look that’s dressy without being too formal.
